Chronostratigraphy

What is chronostratigraphy?

Chronostratigraphy is a branch of geology concerned with the relationship between sedimentary deposition and geological time.

Why use chronostratigraphy?

Chronostratigraphy enables stratigraphic units to be correlated at both regional and basin wide scales.  A chronostratigraphic framework bound by biostratigraphic principles is highly advantageous in areas of structural complexity or where reservoir/aquifer continuity is of concern.  Mapping intervals in this manner enables time equivalent packages to be identified, aiding palaeoenvironmental determinations and providing a framework to assist in prospect risking.

Why use Dawson Stratigraphic Services?

Dawson Stratigraphic Services has proven experience in utilising and developing chronostratigraphic frameworks within the oil and gas industry.  This experience has aided geological interpretations assessing lateral coal seam variation and shoreface sand deposition at both regional and reservoir scale.  Our experience extends across Australia, PNG and Southeast Asia.  Our work in PNG was presented at the AAPG/EAGE PNG Geoscience Conference (2020).
